Your guide will meet you outside the Stavanger tourist information at 07.30. We will walk (15 minutes) to the pier, where we will take a ferry to  Tau.

When arriving in Tau, we will drive to the harbor of Jørpeland city (20 min), which will be our starting point.

This trip starts 20 meter above sea level, and we will have fun on this mini- expedition hiking to the famous Preikestolen at 604 meters above the fjord.

About the route

We start off easy in the Jørpeland harbor. The adventure begins immediately with a visit to an old hydro-power plant, maybe we'll even see some salmon in the river?

From the river we enter the woods. Along the track you'll be met with colorful scenery, and if we are lucky, we may see some deer?

The rest of the route runs through forest landscapes, on narrow stone laid tracks. You will be jumping over rivers, keep you balance while jumping from stone to stone!

After the trip

Congratulations, you have completed the mini expedition to the Pulpit rock! You deserve a nice meal! We will take you to The Rose garden in Jørpeland city. May we suggest you order some nice hot soup or another tasty meal?

After the dinner, we take the Tau ferry back to Stavanger and plan to be back approximately 19.00 (7 pm).

Hike description:

Join us for a hike on the original route to the Pulpit Rock. To do this trip on the original track, off season, is fantastic. We will have plenty of time for photo stops, and the view is panoramic.

Your guide will meet you outside the Stavanger tourist information at 07.30. We will walk (15 minutes) to the pier, where we will take a ferry to Tau.

About the route

Depending on the weather, if the weather is poor we hike the original track, if the weather is nice we go off the beaten track. If it's icy and a lot of snow, we normally hike the original route.

The hike takes around four hours and is around six kilometers. The hike starts from the parking lot by the Preikestolen Mountain Lodge. You will find service facilities with toilets here. The hike consists of slightly hilly terrain with a difference of altitude of 350 meters. The prime attraction on the hike you obtain on top of the plateau with a mesmerizing view of the outstanding Lysefjord. There are nice areas to stop for a rest along the path, and there are even small lakes in which to take a dip should you be extra adventurous.

Part of the route is on fixed path, with stone and solid underlay. But this is a hike in the Norwegian mountains so you will need winter-clothes and good hiking boots.

Whats included:

  • Transportation to/ from the hike
  • Guide with all necesary equipment (navigation, safety, and emergency)
  • Spikes and walking poles
  • Lunch at the hike "From the harbor," hot drinks and snack on the "Original track" hike.

What to bring:

  • Functional/good hiking boots
  • Outdoor clothing. Waterproof jacket and pants
  • Extra pullover for breaks.
  • Small backpack with additional clothing layers/thermal underwear
  • Gaiters (can be rented) on the hike "From the harbor"

On these hikes, do not wear summer- tights or jeans. This is the Norwegian winter mountains.

The weather changes quickly during autumn and winter, and it may be necessary to make changes to scheduled trips. If the hike is cancelled,  you may choose between joining the rescheduled hike or get a refund. If we have to return during the trip, or turn around on the trail, no refunds will be given. Safety first.
